Pumpkin Patch and Trick or Treating

Last week Abby got to go on her first ever field trip, she was so excited! For the last 4yrs she has listened to Wyatt talk about school and field trips and now that it is finally her turn to get in on all the action she is loving it.  She has really adjusted to school great and is still LOVING Kindergarten.  She was also pretty excited to get to ride the bus, it was pretty funny when she asked where the seat belts were as they were about to load up :)

We ended up have a gorgeous day & seeing how just two days later it was raining and 40degrees I say we were extremely lucky!

They got to pick out a pumpkin
This is her "corn angel"

They also had a great Halloween, we went to our friend's house again for their annual Halloween Party.
One of her favorite treats! caramel apple

I have said many times that I lost my battle with Wyatt a few years ago on costume selection.  Now he is what ever cheesy Star Wars character or Ninja that he thinks has the coolest accessories at the time of costume choosing.  This year it was a Ninja (again), but hey at least it's easy and it makes him happy and that's what counts right?  sure

But I can still decide for influence Abby's choice for Halloween attire, I feel like I have her for a couple more years at least :)  This year I "helped" her decide to be a 50's girl.  Her doll Ella also has an outfit so I thought they would be so cute together.  I am glad I was right:)

Monday is also her 50th day of school and they are doing 50's day, she is super excited she gets to wear her costume again. They are gonna have a sock hop and make coke floats! It's no wonder she loves Kindergarten they are always doing some party or super fun activity.

Fall = pumpkin fun

So like I said yesterday we went to the pumpkin patch over the weekend. Of course that meant picking out the perfect pumpkin-not.

See after spending the $$ to get in then of course having to buy snacks and treats at the PP the costly small pumpkin just didn't seem like a great idea when we were heading to Publix right after to get stuff for the bon fire.

So we explained the situation to the kids as to alleviate any tantrums on the way out and to avoid drawing attention to us as we walked away pumpkinless.

Monday was a gorgeous day and since there is a chance of rain in our near future we decided to do the carving. Once we finally decided on a picture for it, it was all hands on deck.

First you must scoop the yuck out, well after daddy cuts the top off.

Then you tape on your design and start poking the outline, this is alot harder than it looks and took all four of us!

Then daddy steps in again and carves out the picture, with a little supervision from Abby-Of Course!

And after all that hard work you get a great looking and not so spooky pumpkin.

I'm jumping in on Creepy, Crawly Crafts with Mayhem and Moxie maybe it this will win me a Flip Camera!

I am on a roll this week so make sure to scroll on down to my post from yesterday.

Weekend Recap

Well it was a nice week and weekend the weather was great most of the time, some real fall weather that we have been wanting so badly.

I had most of last week off due to one of the girls being sick and staying home. Wyatt got out of school early on Thursday so I ran some errands which included a trip to the Health Department-Yuck. They had gotten the H1N1 vacc in, so even though I was scared of the shot, I am more scared of them getting the virus and something terrible happening. A relatives perfectly healthy 12 yr old daughter died from the virus and that is what got me really thinking about getting the shot.

Wyatt has issues when he gets a small cold so no telling what this would do to him. He can not get the mist due to respiratory issues, so it was a shot for both of them. He was a real trooper and took it like a man, Abby on the other hand-she freaked the freak out! She was so good with her regular flu shot I didn't even hold her she sat there and took it, but I think she knew what was coming. I had to pin her down in my lap and hold her arm so the nurse could stab her, it was real fun-NOT!

So we did it and they had NO problem at all from it, Wyatt didn't even complain about his arm being sore like from the regular flu vacc we got a few weeks ago. Afterwards we headed to Sonic to get milk shakes for their bravery!

Saturday started off yucky, but I hoped we would see the sun and gladly the weather lady was right for once. There may have been some ugly emails sent if she had lied to me once again about the weather and telling me it was gonna be a nice day only to find out that the sun never makes an appearance.

We were off to the Pumpkin Patch, we went to a new one this year and it was fun. Muddy but fun. There were a few moments during the hay ride I was unsure if we would make it out of the mud!

They had alot of fun stuff for the kids to do and climb on

They also had a huge slide-the kids loved it and went down more than once

there was a small little patch

And a great "corn" maze. I say "corn" because it is actually sorghum which looks alot like corn. It ended up being the muddiest area of of the farm, but was alot of fun and a learning experience. In order to figure the maze out you had to answer questions. Wyatt did good and only took us the wrong direction once.

That evening we had a little bon fire out back and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows with some friends. They had never cooked hot dogs over a fire before! I couldn't believe it. It was a cold night but the fire kept the adults warm and the running around like maniacs kept the kids warm.

Another pumpkin patch trip

Yesterday being the awesome mom that I am I went with Wyatt's class on their field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. I was not the same one we had gone to as a family but a much cooler bigger one.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, which was a surprise since all week the high had been about 50 but yesterday it was sunny and 70something.

He was happy he got to ride the bus since I am a freak that refuses to put her 6yr old on the bus. Even if a majority of my day is devoted to driving him to school and sitting in car rider line in the afternoon to pick him up, but I can't bring myself to do it, 8th graders ride his bus and I do NOT want him learning things from 8th graders.

We took a hay ride as soon as we got there. He he is wearing MY sunglasses (it was so sunny he said)

We then got let out in the "patch" to pick our pumpkins. Trust me after the money it cost for us to go on that field trip we were picking the biggest ones we could find!

They had huge hay bails to climb on. He he is being "King of the World"

He did NOT want to sit to take this pic with me.

They also had a big hay maze in the barn and from what I was told (because I wouldn't get on my hands and crawl thru it) it was pitch black in it and I am SOOO surprised he went thru it, he did tell me it was a bit scary.

He finished with a little face painting thanks to a friend's grandmother who paid the $1 because I was cheap and told him no.

Notice he is wearing his tie dyed shirt, this was the real purpose of the shirts they all wore them on the field trip, and just to clarify I didn't do the entire class just about 12 of them, another mom did the others. Oh I also made my "boo" shirt :) it was easy though, just one of those iron on things.

Pumpkin Patch time

Yesterday we took our annual trip to the Walden Pumpkin patch. We have been going since Wyatt was just a few months old. I love to look back at the old pics from every trip and how much they have grown from year to year.

It was an absolutely Gorgeous day. Sunny and 70 something. We met some friends there and fun was had by all. We saw lots of baby animals, fed some of those baby animals, played in the corn, and ate a Yummy sliced apple covered in warm, melted caramel. Then we went home and did some manual labor outside (which was not as fun).

I had to include some pictures from the past

This is Wyatt at just about 3mths in 2002

A year later 2003; Notice how much lighter his hair color is?

2004

2005-really looking like a big boy

2006-Finally Abby gets to go. She was 9mths old (click to make it bigger)

2007-Wyatt thinks he is getting to old for the posing for pics

Look who is getting all crafty again!

Yep it is me, it must be the cooler weather but I am just feeling all crafty lately. I saw this cute idea the other day, so technically I can not take the credit for the pumpkin decorating.

So this is what you will need:

Little Pumpkins (real or fake, I used fake) I picked them up at Hobby Lobby for less than a $1/pc since they were on sale!

Hot Glue

Ribbons (If you scrapbook you should also have a ton of this stuff laying around)

An OH so cute helper! Make sure you have a Tinker Bell blanket to sit on also:)

Now get those creative juices flowing and get some matching ribbons and get to glueing.

Oh also if you have an oh so cute helper as in my case be sure to buy her a sparkly pumpkin to decorate

She loves her sparkly pumpkin with it's pink and green ribbon

Here ya go! A super easy, pretty cheap decoration that will also make a great gift for the teacher. That is if you are into winning the "Best Mom" award from the teacher, and most of you know this is always my goal. I am sooo gonna be her favorite, especially after she gets a look at my Christmas gift baskets!!
