Fun in the fall leaves

We don't have many trees in our back yard but we still have fun in the leaves we get out back.

The other night the kids raked up a few and went to playing, as you can tell from the short sleeves the weather has been really nice lately. This week it has gotten chilly but it has been so warm out that they have been able to play outside alot.

raking is hard work

Where's Abby?

and since it has been so nice outside this past weekend we took a little trip to where Shane duck hunts at and took the dogs to go play.

The kids tried to catch little minows in their bucket

the dogs got to play in the water and they loved it

and they even took a minute to stop and pose for me:)

What began as sadness ended beautifully

Our family suffered a great loss over the weekend.  Shane's Nano (his mom's mother) passed away after a very long battle with sickness.

It started about 9 or so years ago when her memory began to go.  I am not sure I had ever heard about the time she left the house to go to Walmart which was close to their house and ended up in another town far from home.  That was the last time she drove and granddad disabled her car but she still tried to leave in it and he just kept telling her they didn't know what was wrong with it.  Most recently she had suffered a stroke and it proved to be to much for her body to recover from.

I was trying to think about the first time I met her and came to the conclusion it was on a Thanksgiving and seems like I remember her making Shane dressing withOUT celery.  See he Hates celery and that is something only a loving grandmother would do.  I have heard tons of stories from Shane that include spending time at his grandparent's house.

The last time I saw her we had taken the kids by their house she always loved all the kids and loved seeing them. She had 7 grandkids and 10 great grandkids.  She would say over and over how beautiful they were.  Nano and Granddad would have been married 67 years on Christmas.  I love that fact seeing as how Shane and I also have an anniversary on Christmas.  No we were not married, but actually met on Christmas night.  Their 67 years weren't always blissfully wonderful, if fact I am not sure that even exists.  But they stuck through it for better or for worse.  I hope that Shane and I can make it to 67yrs or even better, longer.

So like I mentioned Shane always talked about the wonderful memories that he had with his Nano and today he was able to share one of the wonderful memories with me and the kids.  The cemetery she was buried at has a wonderful little pond with beautiful bridges and a water wheel.  He was telling me how they use to go feed the duck there and sure enough as we pulled up there sat a bunch of ducks:)

We got out and it was just beautiful there and we took the opportunity to turn an unbelievably sad moment into a wonderful moment.  I kept saying I wish I had the girl who takes the kids pictures there she would have loved it almost all the leaves had fallen making a carpet of gold and yellow (which BTW is dangerous in heels-just sayin'). Even though we are far from professional photographers we managed to snapped a few good pics.

I also have to take a minute to brag on my kids, we took them today because we felt like they needed to be there and believed that it would help them understand what was happening. We also knew it would make Gram (Shane's mom) and Granddad very happy to see them today.  When we got there Granddad lit up when he saw the kids and picked up Abby and she gave him the biggest hug, I know at that moment he felt better even if it was just for a short time.  They were both so well behaved and sat without a word threw the entire service. Abby took a pink rose after the service and carried it around with such joy, she insisted that it be put in water as soon as we got home and is now sitting on the kitchen table.

Tis the season' to save you some money

He's making his list and soon will be checking it twice; let's face it folks Santa Claus is coming to town!

Yes you are not crazy you did just read my Halloween post but you know how it goes, the day after Halloween all the stuff at the store goes 75%off and they are putting up Christmas stuff. Poor Thanksgiving, it totally gets the shaft. No one really thinks about it unless you are thinking about .40/pd Turkeys on sale at Wallyworld which my dad will be picking up for me for Thanksgiving since I am in charge of cooking the turkey every year but have zero space to store it.

Anyways so I have been on a mission this year to save big $$ every since I found some websites telling me how easy it was. Seriously there are a tons of cheap and free things out there it is just a matter of hunting them down.

Here's a quick example of a great deal thanks to coupons. Last week Publix had a $4 off coupon in their sale paper when you got 4 General Mills products. I got 4 cans of biscuits and after all the coupons I made .44, not really but that amount basically came off something else I had purchased. I also got 2 boxes of cereal and 2 boxes of Nature Valley granola bars and it came to $1.07/pc after all the coupons. Finally I got 2 rolls of sugar cookie dough and two pack of break and bake Pillsbury cookies and after the coupons I made .50 (once again not really it just came off something else)! I mean seriously who doesn't want free and cheap stuff?

Shane and I are usually so bad when it comes to Christmas shopping we have a date night and we eat out and do most all of our shopping in one night. Which generally means we spend WAY to much on our kids. This year I am on a mission to seek out the deals, thanks to a few gals who put in all the hard work hunting down the deals.

First things first Old Navy is having a 50% off outerwear starting today. Go to their weekly website and grab you a coupon and it makes it an even better deal. ON weekly resets every Thursday with awesome coupons the trick is to find them before they're gone, which for the good ones is like seconds:) but hey getting a 25% or 20% off is better than nothing if you already need to go to ON.

Not sure which ones are left right now I do know the good ones $65 off $100 are long gone! If you want a 25% off click on a leaf as it blows behind Wesley's head, 20% off is taking 5 exclamation points and putting them on the bottom after where it says "Michelle's winter must haves" the coupon will pop up and you can email it to yourself.

So go grab you a warm coat, or go on Saturday they will have scarves for only $1!!

On to great deals at Target. This week they sent out their great toy book full of great gifts for the little ones and it included tons of great coupons! If you didn't get one in the mail you can get the coupons at the store or print them here. It should allow you to select just the ones you are interested in printing.

I went the other day and got an amazing deal on Wii games. This week Target has them buy 2 get 1 free. I got 3 of them and then used the $10 off 2 games coupon (it is on page 5 of the coupons). Anyways I got them all for about $21/pc after coupons. If you can manage to only get the cheap ones it comes out to an even better deal.

I also got a Connect 4x4 game for Wyatt it is on sale for $14.99 plus I used this coupon for $5 more off.

Target will price match if you find a better deal anywhere else. There are tons of match ups with coupons and there big holiday toy sale and if you want more details go check out one of my absolute favorite sites.

SwagGrabber is great on not only finding all the sale stuff but she also tells you where to find all the great coupons to combine with the sales and also will let you in on all the freebies that are floating around.

Go here and you can read more about the Target deals.

Boo to you! and other stuff

To get the weekend started off right

and yes it was as good as it looks*

We were so glad when the rain cleared out and Saturday turned into a pretty day which meant all the trick or treating we could handle.

We went to a friend's house for their annual Halloween party. We also trick or treated in their neighborhood and let me tell ya I have never seen like the kids! OMG it was crazy. Oh and another thing-Since when did kids stop walking around the neighborhood getting candy? Have the kids become that lazy that it requires cars, trucks, golf carts, and trailers to haul them around? The traffic was crazy.

Our kids I guess were the part of the very few that were required to actually walk. It was cold but hey it was worth it for the loot

Our friends house was decorated so good, it was complete with a graveyard out front and lots and lots of treats.

How cute are they?

Thumbalina and Boba Fett

This guy was handing out candy-she was not scared one bit she was on a mission for candy and nothing was gonna stop her!

the big boys were not as thrilled with him;)

OMG I can hardly stand the cuteness

And on a totally unrelated note. Saturday also just happened to be the opening day of juvenile hunting season. Shane and Wyatt were up before the crack of dawn and off to the woods. They had been preparing for this for a couple weeks now. We took him out the other day to shoot his gun and make sure it was on target-which it was and so he knew that there would be no blaming of the gun this year if he shoots and misses like last year:)

Anyways so they get there and sit for barely an hour when the unlucky one stumbles into Wyatt's sight's. Shane said Wyatt was pretty nervous he says he was just excited. Either way I heard that there was alot of deep breaths taken before he laid the hammer down and this guy ran a little ways and as they sat there wondering if it was a good shot Wyatt saw him fall and it was official. Wyatt is now a provider for our family and is earning his keep!

Wyatt and one very proud daddy

he was SO proud of himself and told everyone about it. It was so cute hearing him talk about it.

I see many wonderful years and many wonderful memories made while sitting in the woods together. Shane has such a love of all things hunting and outdoors and is so glad that his son is also prepared to wake at godawful hours and go sit in the cold.
