Fall festival and leaving old memories behind

The weather has done a complete turnaround. It is absolutely gorgeous fall weather finally.

Friday night Wyatt's school had their fall festival we had a blast! There was tons of things to do and the kids wanting to do most of it:)

They got their faces and hair painted

There was a cake walk-which they won nothing in

There was a big inflatable obstacle courses-which she totally rocked btw!

it had a huge slide! she loved it and had to do it again

The balloon artist clown lady rocked!

it's a butterfly

And there was a dunk tank that just happened to have Wyatt's last year teacher (who we loved) in it, Abby tried her best to dunk her.

ok so that didn't work on to plan B:) run up and push the button!! She went down.

Saturday was much of nothing, it was still raining at this time!

Sunday Shane woke at some god awful time to go sit in the woods. Then when he got home it was off to Mt. Juliet. Our old stomping grounds, the place we both grew up, the place we met and subsequently fell in love, the place when we left we were ecstatic and we only returned to be married and visit the few we knew that were left there.

The Mt. Juliet we see today is nothing like it was when we were there growing up, hell it is nothing like it was 10yrs ago when we left. There was NOTHING to do there. The place has changed ALOT but truthfully I don't regret leaving and I don't plan on returning. After this weekend we have one less reason to go back.

Shane's dad finally sold his house. I really shouldn't say finally since he only had it on the market for a couple weeks if that long. He got married back in May and moved much closer to us.

It is a little bitter sweet though. Shane grew up in that house when he came home from the hospital it was to that house, he left for college and returned and only left again when we bought the house we live in now. He and I both have only lived one other place besides here (I don't count his nasty dorm room in college).

We have had alot of fun and special times there. I remember when my dad sold his house and I pulled out of the driveway for the very last time I cried. Shane Sunday leaving his dad's house, yea not so much-it's a man thing I guess.

I did however force him to sit on the front porch with the kids and take some pictures, afterall they will not remember daddy's old house in years to come.

I am off from the 2 extra kids this week so we are trying to make the best of this gorgeous weather. More on that later

Seriously will it ever stop?

I am SO over this weather, SO over the rain.

Everyday is a new day of the same thing- rain or cloudy with a chance of meatballs, I mean rain:) Baseball has been canceled for days, we have missed two games I am over that also. I think everything is gonna mildew including me!

I just want some beautiful fall weather, I want the leaves to start changing colors and falling to the ground. I want the air to be cool and crisp not wet and stinky.

I am beginning to realize what it feels like to live in Seattle. I think the weather lady said it has rained for 9 straight days!! and yet there is still rain in the forecast everyday thru the weekend. SERIOUSLY! WTH

So anyways enough of my whining about our weather, it could be worse. Folks are literally floating away in GA, keep them in your thoughts tonight as many have a lot of cleanup to do without flood insurance to cover it.

It wasn't raining this afternoon, it was just cloudy and wet and yucky. But gosh I wanted to have a picnic, the girls wanted to have a picnic, so a picnic we had!

We were on the only dry ground around-the front porch.

Technically it may have not been a picnic, but we were outside so it still counts!

Rain, Rain go away!

So what do you do when it will NOT stop raining outside and you have a couple of rotting bananas on the counter?

You make Banana bread that is what! Especially when you have two adorable helpers.

I had two helpers Wednesday because Wyatt had gotten out of school early for some teacher meeting.

What to do first. Make sure you have all the ingredients needed to make the oh so yummy banana bread. Um Houston we have a problem. No flour, and you have to have flour to make bread. So I call up my trusty neighbor, see we have established a give and take relationship. We like to refer to ourselves as the needy neighbors.

Now to convince Wyatt to go get it, see she is not next door but behind us and when I say behind I mean across the back 40. He agrees when I tell him the rain has pretty much stopped and he can just ride his 4wheeler. Only thing is the rain started again the minute he left and then I felt like a bad mother sending her son out in the rain just so I could have flour to ease my craving for banana bread.

Good thing I have a great neighbor who rewarded him with Reece's cups

So ok now back to that ingredient list.
1 3/4c all purpose flour-she had self rising, I had never used it before in this but it worked just fine I just omitted the next ingredient
3/4t baking soda
1/2t salt
3/4c sugar
1 1/4t cream of tartar
2 eggs
1/2c veg oil
2 bananas make sure they are black and yucky
1/8t vanilla
cinnamon-how ever much you like
Nuts-sometimes we do and sometimes we don't

So remember the neighbor? She had also given us some fresh from the "farm" eggs, ok so it is not a farm but more like a back yard, anyways they have chickens and they have started laying eggs, much to our delight they have shared them with us.

First you mix the dry ingredients, trying to keep them in the bowl.

Then you stop & entertain the baby

Then in a separate bowl mix the rest of the ingredients. Slowly start adding the dry to the wet, be sure to scrape the bowl down.

Stop and remove the baby from the kitchen (yet again) and away from the blinds that are her new fascination. I guess they are funner than the 3,000 toys she has laying in my living room floor

Pour into a loaf pan, I like my stone one. Then and in my house this is a must, but if you prefer you can leave this out, I highly recommend you not do so. You mix cinnamon and sugar together and sprinkle over the top. Trust me

Then you bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes. Your house will be filled with yummy smells and you will once again seal the deal with your kids that you are in fact the best mommy in the entire world.

We like it warm with a bit of butter. This bread can serve many purposes-Breakfast, snack, or dessert:) So if my kids eats something for breakfast that they also consider dessert is that a bad thing?

The last piece was eaten by Wyatt this a.m. for breakfast. I am pretty sure I only got 1 piece! Mommy is always the one that misses out.

Writer's Workshop Thursday

We are onto Thursday now and that means it is time to jump in with MakaKat and get some inspiration from her on what to write about today.

The Prompts:

1.) If You Give A Mom A Moment...
Inspired by Heidi from Sacred And Profane)
Hello a moment is never enough

2.) What's the message you would craft
(inspired by Heidi from Sacred and Profane after she read this post at Minor Catastrophes)

3. look below I chose this one

4.) If your pet could talk, what would you want to know?
(inspired by KK from Kamp KK (but not the KKK))
What do I gotta do to get to sleep that many hours a day and only be required to look cute to have someone feed me. Oh wait Jet does have to go swimming in subfreezing waters fetching ducks to earn her keep so I guess I would want to know from her just how cold does that water feel:) and from Drake my old man I would want him to tell us when it is time:(

5.)If you could only focus on three things in life and pursue them fully, leaving everything else, what would they be and why?
(inspired via tweet by Sarah Mae from Like A Warm Cup Of Coffee)

Oh this one is too hard

3.) Your Fall favorites.
(inspired by me)

Oh I love everything Fall. I love the nice warm (not hotashell) days, the chilly nights, the smell that seems to fill the air. The colors, oh the colors they are awesome.

I Love Halloween. I admit I hate the cheesy costume that I must buy my son because he is to old for me to choose for anymore, but Abby is ALL MINE. I will make her the most cutest costume ever and parade her around the neighborhood (someone else's not ours) and get me I mean them tons of free candy!!

I love the tradition we have. We always go to the pumpkin patch, we have gone to the same one since Wyatt was itty bitty. Our first one didn't go the way I had pictured it in my mind. Picture 3mth old hungry baby and you can figure that one out pretty quick. But we have made tons of fun memories over the years.

We pose with the same props every year

They always have a huge pumpkin

There are lots of forced smiles so mommy can get another family picture:)

We always buy really expensive pumpkins and eat granny smith apple slices with warm, gooey, melty caramel and nuts on them.-oh it is fun

We went to a different one last year with Wyatt's class and it was huge and awesome but I still made Shane do a family trip to this one just because it is our thing, I am not sure what we will do this year. The thought of us not going makes me sad-is that weird?

We also like to have fires out in the back yard and roast hotdogs and make smores:) and those fall cool evenings are perfect for it.

There is one main thing that makes fall a not so fav though-Hunting Season is upon us here in the house. That means alot less of daddy hanging around on the weekends and alot more of our alarm clock going off at godawful times of the morning. We only get glimpses of him from fall deer season all the way through winter duck season.

Wordful Wednesday

Wordless Wednesday, Humpday, Wordful Wednesday or just plain Wednesday what ever you like to call it. It is that time again.

I choose Wordful because I can never seem to keep my mouth shut:)

I got my hair cut over the weekend (remember the great day that ended sucky?) I got it a bit different with it a bit of layers around my face.

I also colored it-ya know I am cheap and can't bring myself to pay someone $70+ to do something I can do for so much cheaper. In fact they had my hair color on sale at Target for $5.99 and then I had a coupon. So I got two boxes for $8.98!! I went alot darker this time thanks to prompting from the hubs. I like it, what do you think? I wish you could see it better in this picture the layers around my face are kinda hidden.

What a craptastic weekend

Well it started all nice, I got done with "work" early on Friday went to the ballpark that evening it was all fun and good. We even ending the night with a run thru the McD's drive thru-I know very healthy, whatever.

Shane and Wyatt were going hunting Saturday morning so I was up at the buttcrack to help get them out the door (yes I am that great of a wife and he is very lucky) then it was back to bed. Abby came and climbed in the bed and I bribed her with chocolate milk so she would go back to sleep and we slept til a more decent hour. I left around 11:30 (child free I might add) to go get my hair cut. He left shortly after me and little to my knowledge this is where my weekend would take a turn for the worse.

I was just loving my uninterrupted me time getting my hair done, running by Sonic for some yummy fatty food and my new fav a Strawberry limeade chiller oh yea it is as good as it sounds you must stop what you are doing at this very moment and go get you one. I mean it GO! Then to make it even better I went and browsed thru Target for as long as I wanted and I didn't even have to look at toys! I mean seriously it was shaping up to be an awesome day.

I decided that it was time to head home and remember how I said my day would go from fun to sh*t this was it. When I pulled into the driveway I noticed my cat ya know this one and something wasn't right. As I got closer it became clear. He was dead. I immediately freaked and called Shane. He couldn't figure out what I was freaking out about. I told him to get home now! He was home within 15 minutes, and buried him. Only thing we can figure is that he was hit by the trailer Shane was pulling behind his truck when he left. He says he's sorry and had no clue that it had happened.

RIP little Fetch, I am sure Zeus will miss sharing his breakfast with you

Sunday I woke up feeling pretty craptastic so again I bribed Abby with some chocolate milk but this time I got her to stay on the couch and watch some TV-don't judge. I went back to bed and did not reemerge til about 11:15! Don't worry Shane was up, it isn't like I left my kids unattended half the day while I slept, I am not that crappy of a mom. I was still feeling pretty bad though. I did manage to feed my kids some lunch and do a little laundry but mostly I was just lazy. I took some drugs and felt a bit better as the day went on.

Today I am stuck with this hacking cough that makes me sound like I have been a chain smoker for a better part of my life, but unfortunately there was no sleeping in today as it is Monday and that means back to school and back to the daily grind. oh how fun

I am so glad he's home!

Fetch that is. Tomorrow would have been a week that he was missing.

Come to find out someone had him, a man saw my sign (that my hubs didn't want me to put out BTW) and called me said he was at his house and he took him down the road to where he thought he lived. Not sure why these people kept him for a week if he didn't belong to them! But never the less they must have seen my sign and let him go because he showed back up on his own. Hungry and sleepy:)

He's so funny the dogs really do love him:) as you can see Zeus doesn't mind sharing his food.

No it's not in fast forward

We went to a friend's birthday party today and he had one of those big inflatable water slides. The kids had a blast and went down no fewer than 400,000 times.

Abby has zero fear as is shown in the video. I know it looks like I put it in fast forward but in reality she was just going about 75mph coming down-every time and let me tell ya that can cause some serious wedgie issues.

Oh and this is totally off topic BUT I thought I would let you know that if you have lotion on your hands and go to open your favorite bottle of perfume and drop it on your slate tile bathroom floor it will break and your bathroom will still smell of perfume about 9 or so hrs later. Guess hubs knows what I need for my birthday.
