Turkey day, Hockey and Starbucks-Oh My!!

Well I am back from my blogging vacation.

We had a great Thanksgiving, we spent it at my MIL's house with hubs family and my dad. I cooked the Turkey-It was AWESOME if I do say so myself:), I also made cranberry sauce that my son loved which made the whole thing worth making, a pumpkin pie and homemade gravy (which was a first). I didn't take any pics of my bird, I thought that may be a bit much.

We went out on Black Friday for just a bit the Target parking lot which happens to be near Toy's R Us was freaking crazy, we attempted to go to Old Navy for some 50% off jeans but when we walked in the door and saw the line that must have been 3 miles long we promptly turned and walked out. Hubs did score some ammunition at Dick's Sporting goods, and I got mad when the lady wouldn't sell me a new phone at Sam's cause my cell phone plan is in my MIL's name so we called it a day and came home.

I told hubs I didn't care how sick he was he was putting my Christmas lights and decorations up outside because he was going on a hunting trip and he would NOT hear the end of it if my lights were not done! So my outside is all pretty and lit up-more on that when I get pics. I haven't done the inside yet, I will be tackling it sometime this week.

Saturday night we went to the Predators game and even though they sucked playing the game we had some awesome seats, as in 9 rows from the glass, and there were some awesome fights and lots of them.

Here's them fam before the game

Here are the kids standing on the glass watching warm ups

Here's Tootoo in One of his fights-I say that because there was more than one

Me and my cute kiddos

Then tonight we met FIL and Mindy for dinner then afterwards we hit Starbucks (of course) I had me a Hot Apple Cider-YUMMY and the kids had some Hot chocolate; yes I am getting them started on their Starbucks addiction early. Haven't you heard they are in trouble and closing stores, so I have to make the next generation of addicts.

More on that Fabulous bag I won

So ya know how a few weeks ago I was featured on the Mission:Monday? Well the reason I was featured is because I had won the giveaway from the previous weeks Mission:Monday. The giveaway was an OH so cute bag from Carissa at Apricot A Lot! -Make sure you click there to visit her blog and check out her oh so cute stuff. They have bags from small to big, hair bows, baby beanies, and stamped cards.

So today the Mailman & UPS men were my best friends because I got 2 packages!!! Now I know everyone loves to get fun mail. I know I love to because finally it isn't someone wanting money from me for things like water, electricity and this internet that I value so much!

It started with a knock on the door from the UPS man I was so excited to find these:

See I had been dying to find some for Abigail, much to my displeasure I soon found that the 4,000 stores I looked at here in my city don't sell them in her size in black and BLACK was exactly what I wanted!! So I went to my trusty internet and found them!

Then when I left to go run errands I checked my mail and found a package in there! I was once again SOOO excited because I knew what it was. I tore it open and found this:

Seriously cute huh?

And the inside-

Notice the card inside she wrote me a very nice little note on the back:) Also see the zipper pocket and the cell phone pocket? I luv the cell phone pocket because I am always loosing mine at the bottom of the black hole that is my purse, now I will be able to grab it with ease.

Carissa is SOO sweet and easy going with helping you design your purse. Yes you heard that right, you can design your own bag based on your style. Trust me, she had TONS of great fabrics to choose from, so much I had a very hard time deciding. But she was great with helping put a great look together. I love love how it turned out, I think it looks casual enough to carry every day but still nice enough I can carry it when I am all dressed up.

Downtown Holiday Jacket and Pant GIVEAWAY!!!!

Seriously how cute would Abigail look in this? Maybe I can have a winning streak and win 2 things in a row.

Downtown Holiday Jacket and Pant GIVEAWAY!!!!

More on my bag that I won later, I am expecting it today (hopefully). Trust me you will hear all about it.

Wordful Wednesday-The Thumb

I thought I would take a chance on this post, a chance that I may regret what I am about to type, a chance that I will totally jinx myself by talking about it.

See we have been on a mission here, a mission that when I began I had no idea it would be so long. I didn't even realize it had been so long until I looked up the original post of me talking about it (make sure you click on that and read the post it is very sweet and makes me want to cry a little when I look at the pictures of her so small). See it was nearly 7mths in the making. There have been lots of promises made and lots of bribes offered. But it took one little trip to the dentist for it to sink in. Wow had I known that is all it would take I would have gone 6mths ago. But we are coming thru with one of the promises and daddy is buying her the Tinker Bell movie today as her reward.

Reward for what you might ask? This is what

Anyone notice anything? Well if you know her you will notice there is NOOOO thumb in her mouth. See since April it has been a battle, a battle that I was gonna win no matter what, and we have been winning by not allowing her to suck her thumb anytime we were around, but at night that was another story. I would tell her "no thumb" but sure enough I would go in there and she would have it in.

I have not had to tell her one time to take it out of her mouth during the daytime since Thursday, see that is when the magical dentist appointment was. When I say "no thumb" at nap or bed time she says "cause the dentist said so". WTH she will listen to a complete stranger but not mommy?

Whatever I am just happy it is done.

Who doesn't enjoy playing in the fall leaves?

It figures about the time all the leaves fall from the trees it turns cold. We had a few on the ground back when it was 70+ degrees outside but nothing like this. So the past few days they have bundled up and ran out to rake and jump in the leaves.

Here they were just not long ago enjoying the not so fall weather

Wow give it a few days and how the weather changes

Even the dog had fun!

Here is Wyatt and his girl "Jet"

he let me bury him

I am kinda glad the weather did finally turn cold, it gets me more in the mood for the season, it's hard to think about Thanksgiving and Christmas while they are running around in shorts. I can also have my nightly fire and coffee.

Are you ready for Thanksgiving yet?

Yep that's right it is right around the corner-2 weeks from Thursday to be exact!

So what is your plan? Do you go big? Do you go to a restaurant? (please tell me you don't), or is it just you the hubs and the kiddos?

Do you cook the food or anything? Or does your mom or MIL do it all? Or maybe it is like us, a few of us cook things and bring it all together at my MIL's house.

Every year I do the same things: Turkey (yes this is my job!), Cranberry sauce-none of that jelly from a can for me, and a pumpkin pie. I always get so excited about the turkey and also so nervous! I mean I am responsible for the main center piece of everyone's Thanksgiving dinner!

We use to do the fry thing and yes it was good but a few years ago we decided to try traditional in the oven. It was so good, I have fiddled with it a couple of times and last year it was AWESOME so I plan on doing the same thing this year.

So here ya go for your reading pleasure and also to make you good and hungry.

I brine my turkey-Alton Brown from the food network swears by it and lets face it the guy knows what he is talking about so I trust him. Basically it is just soaking your turkey in a salt water (a few other spices) bath for about 8 hrs. It does something with something (kinda science talk I don't understand) but it makes it very juicy.

Brine:

2 gallons cold water
1 C salt
1 C Brown Sugar
2 oranges cut into wedges
2 lemons cut into wedges
1T dry thyme
couple of Bay leaves
Rosemary

What I do is pour all of it into a trash bag then put the turkey in then I stick it all in a cooler (I mean who has a fridge big enough for this) with ice outside the garbage bag. I do this the evening before so it soaks for hours before I cook it Thanksgiving morning.

Then take it out drain all the water out and stick it in the roasting pan. I then rub mine with a Roasted Garlic Sage Butter recipe I saw Bobby Flay do once. Here are his instructions for it.

Roasted Garlic-Sage Butter:

2 sticks unsalted butter, slightly softened
1 head roasted garlic, cloves removed- I just used regular minced garlic because I didn't know how to roast a whole garlic
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons fresh sage, finely chopped-I used dry so use less if you do this

Preparation

Combine the butter, garlic, salt and pepper in a food processor and process until smooth. Scrape the mixture into a bowl and fold in the sage. The butter can be made 1 day in advance and stored covered in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before using.

Preheat the oven to 425°F.

Rub the entire turkey, including the cavity with the Roasted Garlic-Sage butter and season well with salt and pepper.
Place the turkey on a rack and place the rack into a large roasting pan. Add 2 cups of chicken stock to the bottom of the pan and transfer to the oven. Roast the turkey for 30 minutes then reduce the heat to 375°. Begin basting (after 30 minutes) with the stock/pan drippings every 15 minutes, adding more stock to the bottom of the pan, if needed. Roast until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the innermost part of the thigh and wing and the thickest part of the breast registers 160 degrees, about 3 1/2-4 hours.. Remove the turkey from the oven, and let the turkey rest, loosely tented, for at least 15 minutes before slicing

Man I wish I had a picture of my masterpiece but who knew last Thanksgiving I would be addicted to Blogger and want to share it with the world.

Hope you try it and it turns out well. YUMMY I can't wait.

How does he say I love you?

Not sure about your hubs but mine is not the hugely romantic type. Sure he gets me good stuff for bday, Christmas, anniversary, etc. but just the normal everyday Friday; not so much. So when this past Friday he walked thru the door with these I thought, HMMM what has he done wrong?

Yes they are just some store bought flowers but the point is he had to drive there after work get out go in and pick them out all for no reason at all.

Much to my surprise he hadn't really done anything, well there was this little bit of a disagreement the night before but I won't bore you with it.

The funniest part was, I was on the computer (surprised?) when he got home, anyways he didn't say anything just laid them on the counter then went out to the garage. It wasn't until Wyatt walked into the kitchen a few minutes later and said what are these? I said what, he said the flowers on the counter and I just laughed.

So I walked out there and said "oh is this your not so subtle way of saying I'm sorry" and he said No. He said he just wanted to make a point, and we will leave it at that.

Yes he will be reading this so let's not let him get to big of a head and think he is the greatest hubs in the world. Trust me he is not far from already believing this.

Look what we found!

Last Sunday we took a little drive to a little town to drop hubs deer off for processing, it was such a gorgeous drive the sun was shining, it was warm, and the leaves had began their wonderful fall transformation. All it all it was a fun Sunday Drive.

So what could make this drive better you ask?

This

Yep you see that right $1.99/gallon gas! and the $30.53 it took to fill hubs Pathfinder up from practically empty!!! OMG it was the best thing, unfortunately the below $2 gas hasn't made it all the way to my city yet but we are getting closer.

Writer's Workshop: Just a few of my pet peeves.

Since I was a slacker and did not do my homework last week I thought I better think of something this week. If you want to get a writing assignment jump over to Mamakat and she will help you out!

I chose to write about 10 of my Pet Peeves.

1. Bad Drivers-I think this is the top of every ones list, especially if you are driving with your kids in the car and some idiot almost runs you over.

2. Parents who don't use a car seat! OMG I could flip out every time I see this, seriously are those people just completely stupid? As you can see I feel strongly about this. It also amazes me what I see in car rider line, for example the 1st grader who is riding in the front seat of his mom's SUV.

3. People who smoke around me or my kids, I am sorry all you smokers out there I hope not to offend you, BUT you chose to smoke not me so Please keep it to yourself and do NOT blow it in my kids face. Do you know how happy I was when they passed the smoking ban in all restaurants in our state? Oh and people who smoke in the car with their kids!

4. Rude kids, not the itty bitties that may not know better yet, but the ones that are old enough to know better. I can get your 2 yr old acting up at the store or restaurant (been there done that), but your 7yr old? really

5. That no one in my house knows how to replace a toilet paper roll but me.

6. When hubs shaves and leaves his little hairs everywhere in and around the sink! He has gotten better since I threatened to divorce him, but there is always room for improvement. ((waving hi honey))

7. When my neighbors don't cut their grass or take any bit of care in the outside appearance of their house.

8. The totally unaware parents at the playground, you know the one she is more concerned with talking on the phone or her friend who she met there and is totally unaware that her little terror of a child is being a playground bully.

9. Constantly having dirty dishes, I swear I feel like the dishwasher (or sink) is always full.

10. Waking early in the morning. I am not a morning person and if I had it my way I could sleep til at least 8am everyday, winter time maybe later!

A day that will forever go down in history!

Yes it is election day, but I cast my vote over a week ago. No I will not tell you who I voted for but I will say it was not the "lesser of two evils" like I keep hearing people say, I voted for who I believe in and agreed with. Will who I voted for win? More than likely not. Do most of you know that there are more than 2 people running for president? maybe not. But I made my voice heard and that is all that matters. If you did not vote please don't tell me and please for the next four years do not one time complain about the president and how he is running this country. If you vote and your guy doesn't win oh well at least you voted!

But that is neither here nor there I have something WAY more important to talk about. Something that is MAJOR has happened today! Something that we were beginning to believe would Never happen, something that we have tried to make happen on more than one occasion, but with no luck.

What you say could be more important than electing a New president of the United States of America? Well my boy riding his bike for the first time with NO I repeat NO training wheels!

here's daddy taking the wheels off

I mean this is such a big deal, he was serious about not even wanting to try. Well there was this one time, but it got off to a rocky start when he hit his leg on the pedal and caused an "injury" and it was pretty much over from the start. Then the bike sat because Shane would not put the training wheels back on forever, but we gave in and they went back on, but alot higher so still he was not happy and barely rode it.

Well today it is another gorgeous day so I thought why not give it a try, I took him out to the road and he was riding so well the training wheels weren't even touching. I convinced him to let daddy take them off, and he was like a pro! He never fell over, he never crashed, nothing he just took off and started riding. We were jumping up and down with excitement.

He was also so proud of himself. He is really turning into a big kid before our eyes. I could almost cry.

Tricks or Treats?

We had a super fun Halloween Day. I got to go to the Pumpkin Patch with Wyatt (see below) it was a gorgeous day, that led to a nice and only slightly chilly evening of treat getting!

We got home after the field trip & I decided I could NOT let the at least one of the pumpkins go uncarved, I mean who gets three pumpkins and doesn't carve one of them? What kind of mom would I be? So I laid Abby down for what I thought would be a nice little cat nap before trick or treating but soon turned into a HUGE battle that included lots of screaming and crying oh and a little gagging, but I won and she slept for like 10 mins! anyways so I thought I would do a fun, quick pumpkin face but Wyatt had other plans and said it HAD to be scary. So he won and I did this

Do you see the spider eating the pumpkin? Oh and this picture is it on our friend's porch because that baby went with us to the party! I did NOT spend all that time on it to have it sit at home on my porch with me not there to enjoy it.

I have been planning Abby's Halloween costume since oh maybe Aug! I was SOOOO excited for her to finally get to show it off and run the streets getting candy-did I mention I made the tutu and the bow on her hat? I lost the battle last year with Wyatt and am now forced to buy the cheap off the rack from Target costumes, so not as much fun for mommy.

This year he went as a ninja, a cobra ninja if you asked him! His best friend was also a ninja but his costume was different, who knew there were so many Ninja types:)

We got an early start on the trick or treating since we had to stop at 2 neighbors then off to MIL's house and back to Wyatt's friends house where we ate chili, went trick or treating, made smores and had a great time hanging out with friends.

Wyatt had 2 friends with him trick or treating so I could barely keep up with them. Abby and I just took our time going from house to house getting candy. She LOVED it & had her "trick or treat's", "thankyou's" & "Happy Halloween's" down. I loved watching her walk up and try to "ring the bell" as she said.

I never got anymore pics of Wyatt in his costume because he was to busy playing with his friends, but here he is enjoying his smore by the fire.

I did get Abby to pose for one with mommy

And one more just cause I love it

I will have to share the video of her dance moves from the party later I am off to bed for now.
